Significance

Dancing can significantly reduce the symptoms of Spinal Cord Injury. Currently, only clinical studies show that dance can be effective but that they tend to be small in size and run mostly with former dancers.

This study demonstrates that advanced audiences and novice audience can be impressed by a dance performance.

Definition of objectives and key elements

To create a representation of sensitive subjects and manipulate the paradigms of tools and techniques used, literature and projects of earlier research.

Literature review

This area of research has evolved over the years from more fixed experiments (such as the athletic and visual gestures), to more dynamic or open-ended experiments (dancing movements).

Dancing is becoming increasingly popular for diagnosis, rehabilitation, and exercise purposes.

A year and a half ago, I had a horrible case of Tragus Carinii Lumbar Compartment Syndrome (TCRS), which is spinal cord injury that affects the lower spine and brain (commonly referred to as the “Back Injury”). I decided to heal myself by using art as therapy for muscle strengthening and repetitive leg movement.

The severity of the injury can vary from type to type, which is why I chose to have this study exclusively focus on the Spinal Cord Injury.

Dancing helps improve manual dexterity, more mobility, deenergized muscles, and more efficiency in exercise routine. These are the main goals of the study.

The Impact of Dance

The ability to move has proven to be highly beneficial for patients undergoing Spinal Cord Injury.

As noted by Wang (2015), those who were suffering from Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) during their recovery naturally reported that walking was back to normal patterns and walking commands were reported as improved with the use of movement aids (such as movement brace, stimulus trainer, and guidance).

The vitality of the function of movement aids can also improve body awareness.

Key findings

The effects of technique such as Total Body Reversal (TBR) are reported to greatly improve the coordination of muscles and the benefit of such technique in fatigue in those with a history of MS (Sharma, 2018).

Swimming is an excellent exercise as it combines strength, endurance, and rhythm.

We needed to do both as they are done by various African-American legends from the twentieth century to 20th century.

Why I choose this medium?

Especially among the African American population, I wanted to highlight important African-American contemporary performance styles through the stage.

African dance is the most dynamic style in African-American traditional dance. Their styles and movements are evidence of how different African-American aspects of dance (e.g., the form and point of attack and the extent of movement) have become revolutionary in the genres today.

No matter, where the training did not go well, the music helped. Music and dance compliment each other in the performance design.
